Water Level in Resaca to Be Lowered for Repair Work

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) will lower the water level in one portion of Resaca De La Guerra by 2 feet to accommodate repair work that must be done by a contractor for Brownsville and Rio Grande International Railway.

BPUB plans to begin slowly lowering the water level in the resaca Friday. The area that will be affected is from Old Port Isabel Road to Highway 48. The amount of water that will be left is enough to ensure that there will be no harmful effects to any plant or wildlife in that area.

Brownsville and Rio Grande International Railway requested the resaca level be lowered so that contractor Simmons Bridge Construction could perform repairs. The work may begin as soon as Monday, June 22, and is estimated to take two to three days to complete.

Once repairs are complete, water will start flowing into that portion of the resaca so that the depth can be raised again. BPUB estimates that it will take about a week for the depth in that area to return to normal.
