BPUB: Final Phase of Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project is moving to the final phase of construction on the installation of a 16-inch waterline along the south side of Boca Chica Boulevard. The final tie-in of the new waterline to the existing line on Owens Road will take place from Monday, May 1 through Friday, May 5, 2023.
The final phase of the project will require a complete roadway closure of Owens Road at the intersection with Boca Chica Boulevard. All traffic will be required to follow detour signage along International Boulevard, Southmost Road and 30th Street in order to access Owens Road.
The Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project will provide reliability and improve BPUB’s water distribution system, in conjunction with the new 2 million-gallon elevated storage tank, which is currently under construction.
During construction, the Brownsville Police Department will be redirecting traffic during peak hours until residents become accustomed to the new traffic changes. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.
Required permits for this project have been granted by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as Boca Chica Boulevard is designated as Texas Highway 4. BPUB, TxDOT and the City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences the closure may cause.
