BPUB Assists City of Combes with Emergency Sinkhole Repair Efforts
BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) mobilized a team to provide critical support following a major storm that caused significant damage to the City of Combes. The request was channeled through the Cameron County Office of Emergency Management and the City of Brownsville’s Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security.
The Historic Flooding of March 26-28, brought by record levels of rainfall, led to the formation of a large sinkhole along US Highway 77, one of the City of Combes’ main roadways. The sinkhole disrupted traffic flow and posed a significant risk to emergency vehicle access. To address the issue, the City of Combes requested immediate assistance to repair the sinkhole and ensure the safe passage of emergency vehicles.

BPUB deployed a team to assist in repair efforts.
BPUB deployed a vacuum truck with a tandem of operators, Jesus Garcia and Enrique Zamora, to assist with repair efforts. The team arrived on site April 9 and is expected to work for the next two to three days to help repair the sinkhole and reopen the road for emergency vehicle access.
“At BPUB, we’re committed to supporting our neighboring communities, especially in times of crisis,” BPUB General Manager & CEO Marilyn D. Gilbert said. “We’re proud to assist the City of Combes with this urgent repair, and we’ll continue to work together to keep our communities safe.”
Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., expressed his appreciation to BPUB.
“We are thankful to BPUB and the assistance they have been able to provide,” Treviño said. “Knowing that our community partners are there to offer their support in times of crisis reminds us that we are a community that cares for one another.”
