BPUB Announces Temporary Lane Closure; Initiates Boca Chica Waterline Upgrade Project
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces a temporary lane closure on Boca Chica Boulevard from International Boulevard to Owens Road starting today, Nov. 21, through April 2023 to install a 16-inch waterline for a future waterline loop to BPUB’s new 2-million-gallon Elevated Storage Tank currently under construction at the intersection of Southmost Boulevard and East 30th Street.
BPUB’s new 2MG Elevated Storage Tank will replace two older water tanks: the elevated storage tank demolished in 2018 formerly located on Southmost Boulevard and the elevated storage tank at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) campus. UTRGV’s elevated storage tank is scheduled to be demolished once the new 2MG Elevated Storage Tank is fully operational.
During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane until work is completed. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.
BPUB, Texas Department of Transportation and City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences the closure may cause.
