Make plans for PUBCAP

Posted in ,

The Public Utilities Board Consumer Advisory Board, better known as PUBCAP, held the first meeting of its 2021-2022 session on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The agenda included a presentation that provided an overview of the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) and a discussion about current BPUB projects.

PUBCAP serves a very important function for BPUB. It was organized in 1989 to better inform Board officials about the needs and concerns of customers. The 10 PUBCAP members are a cross-section of the community, coming from diverse areas and jobs, and then there’s one BPUB liaison who also participates in PUBCAP.

Communication is really at the heart of PUBCAP, and that communication is a two-way street. Every meeting, customers have the opportunity to voice any concerns or bring up any service-related utility issues that they might be experiencing. Better knowing what’s going on throughout the service area helps address any issues quickly as they arise and ultimately make our utility services better.

In addition, BPUB employees keep PUBCAP informed. Current projects are discussed every month, and BPUB employees give presentations about their fields of expertise. It’s a good way to get a better understanding of how BPUB runs and all that it does.

Customers are encouraged to get involved. PUBCAP meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday of the month starting at 5:30 p.m. and are open to the public. Questions and participation from the community are welcomed at these meetings. Keep watch on the meeting page on BPUB’s website or follow BPUB on Facebook and Twitter to stay up on when and where the meetings are held.
