High Winds Result in BPUB Customers Losing Power

Brownsville, TX – Winds measuring more than 40 mph caused service interruptions Monday, Aug. 18, affecting more than 2,000 Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) customers.

The majority of BPUB customers without power live in central Brownsville, but there also could be other sporadic outages caused by the wind from branches making contact with power lines. A broken electrical pole broke resulted in approximately 1,122 customers losing power with other outages accounting for the remaining customers without electricity.

BPUB crews have been dispatched to the affected areas to get service restored as quickly as possible.

BPUB is aware of the power outages and apologizes for the inconvenience. In the event of a prolonged outage, customers can call 956-983-6300 to report an outage.
