FM 511 Road Closure Expected to Finish by End of July

Posted in

Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) contractors announced the temporary closure of FM 511 at the Boca Chica Boulevard intersection is now expected to open by the end of July. JM Construction has temporarily closed FM 511 on the north side of Boca Chica Boulevard to install sanitary sewer utility lines.

The new date is a one-month delay for the project that was originally estimated to be completed by June 27. The main cause for the delay was problems associated with working with the groundwater found in the area.

The new sanitary sewer utility lines are part of a large project that will bring first-time sewer service to many colonia residents and others living in this area. This closure is part of an ongoing effort by BPUB to establish the sewer infrastructure in the area. During construction, through traffic on FM 511 will be detoured to FM 313 (Minnesota Avenue). Local traffic will be provided access to the closed area.

The closure is effective until the end of this part of the project, which means the barriers will be in position every day until work is completed. This includes after-hours and weekends. All construction dates are approximate, and the end date may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.

BPUB, JM Construction, Texas Department of Transportation, Cameron County and City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences the closure may cause. To learn more about road closures, please visit www.brownsville-pub.com.
