BPUB Reschedules Road Closure for Cannery Public Market Project
Due to weather conditions, the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) rescheduled last month’s temporary road closure on Ringgold Street from Sixth Street to Seventh Street to Monday, Jan. 8 through Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. BPUB will install an 8-inch diameter sanitary sewer line to connect the City of Brownsville’s Cannery Public Market (CPM) building to the main wastewater collection system along Seventh Street.
The CPM project, currently undergoing renovations at the Cannery building at Sixth Street and Ringgold Street, is a vital endeavor for the community. Upon completion, the CPM will become a hub for various community-oriented services. It will feature the Brownsville Farmers Market, an incubator commercial kitchen, offices for the Brownsville Wellness Coalition, and cold storage facilities for the RGV Food Bank. Additionally, the project encompasses the installation of new restroom facilities, an outdoor kitchen, a building to house food bank offices, and various outdoor enhancements such as shade structures and landscaping.
BPUB acknowledges that construction schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions, soil circumstances, and job requirements. We are committed to providing regular updates regarding any alterations to the contractor’s traffic control plan and construction timelines.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these temporary closures and detours. This temporary road closure signifies a significant step toward the realization of a vibrant and accessible hub for community services at the heart of Brownsville.
