BPUB Reports Data Security Incident

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) reports that it recently discovered a data security incident that impacted its systems. Upon learning of the issue, BPUB took immediate steps to protect its environment and is now investigating the issue.

BPUB is currently in consultation with outside cybersecurity and data privacy professionals. That investigation is in its early stages and ongoing. The immediate goals are to remove any and all infections from BPUB systems and make sure all devices are clean.

BPUB and its consultants are working as quickly as possible to determine the scope and impact of the incident. BPUB will keep customers apprised of relevant developments as the investigation continues.

BPUB prepares for emergencies such as this and took quick action to ensure no impact on service for its customers. In addition, BPUB will work with authorities in investigating this.
