BPUB Deploys Employees to Support City of Laredo During Water Emergency
In response to the recent Boil Water Notice (BWN) issued by the City of Laredo due to the detection of E. coli in the water system, the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) is proud to announce its partnership with the Texas A&M Public Works Response Team (TX-PWRT) to assist in the city’s efforts to ensure the safety of its water supply.
On October 10, 2024, the City of Laredo issued a citywide BWN, prompting immediate action from state and local agencies. Although the notice was lifted on October 21, the city continues to operate under a disaster declaration issued by Governor Abbott. To support Laredo’s request for assistance during this critical time, BPUB is deploying two of its expert technicians—Primitivo Garcia, Jr., Environmental Technician with over 17 years of experience, and Jose Antonio Silva, Senior Environmental Technician with over 7 years of service.
“Our employees are not just skilled professionals; they are dedicated community members ready to support their neighbors in times of need.” said Marilyn D. Gilbert, General Manager & CEO of BPUB. ” I am proud of Primitivo and Jose for stepping up to this challenge, exemplifying the spirit of service that defines our organization.”
Both technicians hold essential certifications, including Customer Service Inspector (CSI) and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT). They will be deployed for a minimum of 14 consecutive days, working closely with TX-PWRT and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to coordinate critical public works and engineering responses.
BPUB remains committed to the health and safety of the communities it serves and is dedicated to active participation in emergency response initiatives.
