BPUB asks Customers to Conserve Energy
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces that electrical conservation is being requested by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) starting today between 2-8 p.m. due to high demand throughout Texas because of sustained heat.
ERCOT advised BPUB on Monday that the heat wave that settled on Texas and much of the United States is driving increased electric use. Other grid operators are operating under similar conservative operations due to the heatwave. Low wind is also a factor. Current projections show wind generation is coming in less than 10 percent of its capacity.
Here are some ways that customers can conserve electricity:
- Turn up thermostats on air conditioning units a couple of degrees.
- Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
- Avoid running large appliances such as washers, dryers and electric ovens during peak energy demand hours (2-8 p.m.).
