BPUB Announces US77/83 Temporary Closure

Posted in

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces a temporary closure of northbound Interstate Highway 77/83 (US77/83) on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, from midnight to approximately 5:30 a.m. BPUB crews will temporarily close the northbound portion of the expressway from Alton Gloor Boulevard to Merryman Road/Sports Park as BPUB personnel repair street lighting.

This closure, which will only impact the northbound traffic, is part of an ongoing effort by BPUB to improve the city’s safety and infrastructure. The expressway street lighting repairs will improve visibility and safety for drivers.

During construction, through traffic will be detoured to the frontage road until work is completed. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.

BPUB, Texas Department of Transportation and City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences the closure may cause.
