BPUB Announces Temporary Road Closure

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces a temporary road closure as part of the utility’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvement.

The road closure will affect Ridgely Road, between East 18th Street and East 21st Street, starting Thursday, Oct. 2. This closure is necessary as a BPUB crew will begin demolition of Elevated Water Storage Tank No. 5. The closure is expected to last approximately 45 days.

BPUB announces temporary road closure for the demolition of Elevated Water Storage Tank No. 5.

This demolition of Elevated Water Storage Tank No. 5 has been planned since the construction of a new elevated water storage tank in Southmost in November 2023. The new elevated water storage tank has a capacity of 2 million gallons and replaces the storage tank being demolished as well as another one that was already decommissioned.

Motorists are asked to be vigilant for road signs in these areas. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.

BPUB, Texas Department of Transportation and City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause.
