BPUB Activates Emergency Operations Center

BROWNSVILLE, TX – With the threat of extreme cold weather in Brownsville and across Texas, the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) activated its emergency operations center, effective Sunday at 5 p.m.

The Electrical Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) predicts this weather event could result in record winter electric use and has already requested that customers start conserving electricity. BPUB will keep customers up to date on any changes or requests in the ERCOT system.

BPUB is prepared and ready to handle impending weather-related issues expected due to the extreme cold weather event. Should there be power, water or wastewater service interruptions due to downed power lines or natural causes, BPUB employees are trained and ready to restore electricity, water and wastewater services to Brownsville. Crews will be dispatched once conditions are deemed safe.

Regular business will close starting Sunday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. and will resume after the dangers of the extreme cold weather event pass.

BPUB staff and crews will remain on duty throughout this time and will work to restore utility services as needed. Customers can report service outages using BPUB’s outage reporting tool at or by calling 956-983-6100.

The public can rest assured that the utility will remain abreast of the situation. Information is also available on the BPUB website at, Facebook at and Twitter at For more information about electrical grid conditions in the state, customers can visit or download the ERCOT mobile app.
