ERCOT: Electrical Conservation Needed Now

BROWNSVILLE, TX – The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces that electrical conservation is needed now until 7 p.m. to avoid rotating outages due to high demand throughout the state of Texas from sustained heat resulting in a record-setting load.

ERCOT advised BPUB on Tuesday that high temperatures have resulted in record electricity demand over the last few days and may result in a new record today.

ERCOT says the state is currently in Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) 1 status, which occurs when reserves dip to a critical level and conservation is urged to ensure normal electrical operations.

BPUB is requesting that customers conserve electricity in order to avoid the overloading of the power lines. Compliance with this instruction will prevent the need for rotating outages or loss of electricity throughout the state. This process will continue until the danger of overloading the electric grid passes.

Customers can conserve electricity by turning off unnecessary lights, not washing and drying clothes during this time, and raising the thermostat on their air conditioners.
