Ever wanted to get a peek behind the curtain at the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB)? You’ll have your chance Thursday, May 17 when BPUB holds one of its semiannual community tours.
This upcoming tour will shine the spotlight on the water and wastewater sides of BPUB. These utilities are critical to the continued health and development of Brownsville, and it’s a great opportunity for commercial and residential customers to better understand the methods BPUB uses to produce drinking water and the extensive infrastructure in place to deliver that water to thousands of customers at a moment’s notice.
This tour will give participants a walkthrough from the river where the water is first brought into the system to the treatment plant where the water is treated. Stops on the tour include:
- River intake
- BPUB reservoirs
- Robindale Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Southmost Regional Water Authority desalination water treatment plant (SRWA)
BPUB always strives to improve whatever it does, and as such, those who sign up for this tour will be able to watch the premiere of a new video produced by BPUB about the history of the Brownsville water system and the city’s utility.
Transportation and lunch will be provided, but space on the tour bus is limited. If you’re interested in attending, you can register online at http://newsroom.brownsville-pub.com/community-tour. If you have any questions, please call 956-983-6281.
