BPUB Introduces Bilingual Video Series

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) is back with a new video series. The previous video series, the BPUB Update, has been revamped into BPUB Central. The new series extends its reach by covering each topic in both English and Spanish.

The essence of communication is to be able to share ideas with individuals in a means that they understand.  The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) is revamping how it delivers the latest about projects, news, and information with its relaunch of video: the BPUB Central. The new series extends its reach by covering topics in both English and Spanish.

BPUB has a heavily Hispanic customer base, and many of those customers’ primary or preferred language is Spanish. That means that a large segment of BPUB customers were missing out when it came to the English-only BPUB Update. They were unable to easily get the information shared in the previous video series English-only format.

Something needed to be done. That is why BPUB decided to take the time to figure out the best way to share these videos with all of its customers. The name BPUB Central was chosen because its spelling translates the same way in both English and Spanish, and then the hosts were chosen. Senior Communications and Public Relations Coordinator Ryan Greenfeld took on the duties for the English-language videos, while Cleiri Quezada, communications and public relations coordinator, was put in charge of the Spanish videos.

The two work closely together to come up with ideas and to write the scripts. This is necessary to ensure that the translations are accurate and bring the most relevant information to the viewers. The goal for both languages is to take some of the more complex concepts or projects concerning BPUB and make them easy to understand and digest for those unfamiliar with the utility industry.

The new video series is already garnering attention, with a story done by local news station KVEO to promote the new series. BPUB hopes these videos will continue to extend the utility’s reach into the community and further educate its customers about BPUB.

If you would like to check out the new videos, you can find them on BPUB’s YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/user/BPUB78521.
