BPUB Announces US77/83 Temporary Closure

Posted in

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) announces a temporary closure of Interstate Highway 77/83 (US77/83) on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, from 3 a.m. to approximately 9 a.m. BPUB crews will temporarily close the portion of the expressway from near Tandy Road to near East Morrison Road as personnel install a fiber optic cable. This includes northbound and southbound lanes.

This closure is part of an ongoing effort by BPUB to improve the city’s infrastructure. Installation of the fiber optic cable will improve communication with BPUB’s water tower on Alton Gloor Boulevard. This will allow BPUB to better monitor the water levels inside the water tower, which will help reduce waste and assure the high quality of the water.

During construction, through traffic will be detoured to the frontage road until work is completed. All construction dates and times are approximate, and the end date and time may vary due to the nature of weather, soil conditions and job provisions.

BPUB, Texas Department of Transportation and City of Brownsville departments have coordinated on this effort to make it a safe and efficient operation. BPUB apologizes for any inconveniences the closure may cause.
